What's in the car? A CD-R.

I think "chill" is an apt word to describe the mood of this album. This is the last full album this band put out. I know at one point the band was offering a free download on their website of demos of all the songs on this album. I can't find it anymore. So I uploaded it, and I am including it in the relevant links. A noteworthy demo is "Everything Ends (Demo)". On the album, there is a track entitled "(Theme From) Everything Ends" which is only about two minutes long. The demo version of this same track is a whopping thirteen minutes long. Three sixty five seven fifty.

Let it be known that I have a huge celebrity crush on lead singer Annie Hardy. This album fuckin' rocks, and Annie's sense of humor shows through several of the track titles. This band performs live with only two people, Annie Hardy on vocals/guitar and Micah Calabrese on drums/synth. Another band I like a lot has a similar live set up: Wye Oak. To commemorate my inexplicable love for this type of band, I am also posting a Wye Oak song today. (Click on the album art to download the album.)

P.S. It's always been a dream of mine to start a band like this. If you're talented and a hot chick and you want to start a band, let me know!

Earth - An Inquest Concerning Teeth

Dylan Carlson of Earth was Kurt Cobain's best friend. He also purchased the shotgun with which Kurt Cobain committed suicide. And (possibly as a result) he suffers from drug addiction. Somehow knowing these things makes me look at Earth's music in a different light.

Tomáš Dvořák - Clockwise Operetta

This song is from the soundtrack of Machinarium, a game that I recently had a lot of fun playing. The game is very beautifully done, and the soundtrack by Tomáš Dvořák is great.

You don't need anyone; don't want no friends.

Many times I have said that the song "Mass" on this album is my favorite song of all time. This may or may not be true, but either way, it is a very well written song bursting with emotion. And the same goes for the rest of the album. Lead singer Carter Tanton's voice is beautiful and haunting. (Click on the album art to download the album.)

Since when we learned to fly, mimicking birds we share the sky.

When I first saw this band open for Modest Mouse last year (they are signed to Isaac Brock's label, Glacial Pace) I immediately fell in love with their music. They are absolutely sublime live. I saw them again last night at a very small and intimate show, and they were extremely nice and exceeded all my expectations! I highly suggest seeing this band live.

One week complete!

Well, it only took me an entire week to find out that nobody but myself was able to listen to the mp3s I had uploaded. However I think I have found a solution to this problem. Now if you want to hear the songs, click on the "Listen" link. This will help me conserve bandwidth usage. If you are reading this and you are experiencing any problems, please leave me a comment! In other news, I have already posted the first song of this week. Enjoy!

If we wait too long, it'll be too late.

I have chosen one of my all time favorite releases for my inaugural full album post. Tacks, The Boy Disaster is a great indie pop band from Austin, Texas. I always have trouble introducing them to my friends due to their ridiculous band name with a confusing comma. This year I had the honor of seeing them play at SXSW in a church, and I was completely blown away. It was easily the highlight of my SXSW 2010 experience. A short EP released in 2006 entitled Oh, Beatrice is their only release so far (other than a Daytrotter session they recorded in 2007). However, I've e-mailed them and they personally responded explaining that they plan on releasing music at some point this year. Also, their rarely-updated blog seems to confirm that. I'll keep my fingers crossed. The song that I have chosen to share is the album opener. Hopefully, it will properly whet your appetite to hear the rest of the EP. Unit 3000-21 is warming.

Well, I am not exactly sure what I will do with this blog. I have a few ideas floating around, but the only thing that is certain is that this will be a music blog.

As of now this blog will be titled "Sympathy 3000-21". Some of you may recognize this as the second half of the track "One More Robot" by The Flaming Lips. I wanted a music-related title for this blog that also sounded mysterious/cool. I think I succeeded. Also, this title is very fitting as I have lived the vast majority of my life in the hometown of The Flaming Lips, Oklahoma City, and they are easily one of my favorite bands.

I will begin this music blog by sharing the very song that inspired its title!
